FirstBank has announced two new $3500 scholarships for students in the College of Business at Colorado State University. In 2007, an incoming junior and an incoming senior will be selected for the scholarships. Each succeeding year, a new junior applicant will be selected, and the incoming senior may renew the scholarship for another year.
According to Mike Brown, a 1987 CSU graduate and currently executive vice president of FirstBank of Aurora, the endowment has been building since 2001 when a group of FirstBank officers who are CSU alumni decided to establish the fund.
With matching funds from FirstBank Holding Company, the endowment has raised $190,000. The endowment committee has already made a five-year commitment to endow two $10,000 FirstBank Distinguished Teaching Fellowships in the College of Business.
“FirstBank is an outstanding partner for Colorado State University and the College of Business. We are delighted that our alumni and friends who are associated with the bank have created these programs – their support is valued by faculty and students alike. I’m deeply appreciative of the opportunity to thank them publicly for the new endowed scholarships for students in the College of Business,” Dr. Ajay Menon, Dean of the CSU College of Business, said.
Successful applicants for the FirstBank/Colorado State University scholarships will be Colorado residents who are business majors with strong academic performance, civic involvement and/or work history.
FirstBank and its officers have endowed other scholarship programs that along with these new scholarships will fund over $100,000 for the coming school year at universities throughout the state.
FirstBank also has a policy of matching any contribution made by an officer or employee to a Colorado college or university, up to $5,000 per calendar year. These matches are made for funds directed specifically to the educational needs of the institution.
FirstBank is Colorado’s largest locally owned bank holding company with more than 110 bank offices and over $7.8 billion in assets. The company is unique in that management and employees own a majority of its stock.
